World Wetlands Day: our team on the riverbank

On 2 February 2026, World Wetlands Day, the Zeta Hub team swapped keyboards for gloves. We joined community groups, youth organisations and local partners to restore the banks of the Gathara-ini River, and we were proud to be one of the organisations supporting the day.
Clearing and planting
The morning started with a clean-up along the riverbank, filling bags with plastic and other litter that would otherwise have ended up in the water. Once the bank was clear, volunteers planted seedlings that will help hold the soil together, slow run-off and filter the water as they grow.
Wetlands and traditional knowledge
This year's global theme for World Wetlands Day was "Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage". It was a fitting theme for a day spent with neighbours of the river: communities have looked after their rivers and wetlands for generations, and restoration works best when it builds on that knowledge.
Why a tech company was there
We believe the companies building Kenya's digital future should also show up for the environment it depends on. Days like this are part of our CSR work, alongside free technical training and our membership of RCE Greater Nairobi.
